“If I’m thinking correctly,” Said Pooh, “A new baby is probably, undoubtedly, the grandest gift that could ever be.” – Winnie The Pooh
“Fall is proof that change is beautiful.”
“It’s the first day of autumn! A time of hot chocolatey mornings, and toasty marshmallow evenings, and best of all, leaping into leaves!” – Winnie The Pooh
These quotes bring me so much joy because they remind me of the time that I had my baby shower for my son. A special time… 3 years ago. What brings me additional joy this time is that I got to plan a close friends baby shower! She wanted it to be a Fall pumpkin baby shower and there was no way I was going to say no to that!
Being outdoors was my original plan for this party because of how beautiful nature is during fall however, in Wisconsin – hanging outside in upper 40s is not our (my) first choice. Last minute I moved everything indoors and I was glad I did because it worked out so nicely!
Let’s Talk Details
- Date: Sunday, October 8th
- Theme: Little Pumpkin
- Type of Event: Baby Shower for Boy
- Colors: Majority fall colors with pops of blue/green
- Guest Amount: 12
- Time: Brunch, 10:00am-12:00pm
- Indoors
- Casual Attire
For the mama – I got her a Mama-To-Be Gift that she could wear for the party. It is a sash, pin and headband. There are so many cute ‘Don’t Eat Pumpkin seeds’ shirts on Amazon that I was going to get but mama had already gotten a dress to wear. It’s just an idea if you want to gift your mama one! 🙂
I wore a burnt orange dress I got a long time ago from Old Navy but I wish I would’ve worn This Dress.

Decorations
Picture this… it’s on the verge of fall and your forced (by yourself) into planning a party because you’re obsessed with parties. Then you realize that… it’s fall; one of the easiest seasons to decorate (right behind Christmas). You think oh… this will be easy. FALSE. I won’t say it was hard. What I’m saying is there were a MILLION things I could do; which makes it not-so-easy.
Every time I went online to shop, get inspired or got the opportunity to hit up some stores, I was hit with the fact that everything would be perfect for this party. I wanted to buy everything. I had to remind myself that you only need ‘so many’ pumpkins for a Little Pumpkin Baby Shower.
If I was smart – I would’ve just used the decorations in the 4 bins of ‘fall decor’ that I had in the garage. But, never once did I say I was smart to you… haha.
The Arch

Since I was originally going to have this party outside – I very strongly wanted to have an arch for guests to walk through when they arrived at my house. I didn’t end up cancelling the arch because – who says you can’t put a giant wood arch up in your living room.
I rented the arch from a local company –> https://avilaeventrental.com/
This whole indoor scene was set up so that our mama-to-be could relax and open her gifts with a pretty setting. As the party was nearing the end, we moved the chair and used this space as a photo backdrop!
Most of these items were purchased as unique items however, I have found Amazon dupes that will work beautifully to achieve a similar look and feel!

The Tables

Updating our location to indoors made it a bit of a challenge when it came to arranging the tables as well as which size tables to use. When I had it outside I knew I wanted to do three 8′ tables. However, with guest count decreasing and the fact that I couldn’t fit the arch and three 8′ tables in my living room I had to adjust. Event Planning is all about… adjusting.
Two of the table top flannels I got from Joann Fabrics. I was looking for a very specific plaid and thought that getting raw fabric would be the most cost effective option. The flannel on the 8′ table was a blanket I’ve had for years! The white “tablecloths” were actually bedsheets. Tablecloths that are floor length and inexpensive are actually hard to find when you want a specific shade of white. So I decided that our flat sheets we had were perfect for what I was looking for. Free and fit the script. I used two sheets for the 8′ and 1 on each of the square tables. The purpose for this is so that you don’t see the table legs. It is just better on the eyes!
I wanted to keep the decor for the tables simple but impactful. Choosing to put the place seating on the table is always something I want to do. It feels more polished to have it set out instead of on the food table. That being said, there is nothing wrong with having a stack of plates by the food! When you run into space issues it’s good to think about doing that instead of using up quality space by the food. The pillar pumpkins were actually from my parents but I’ve listed some items from Amazon for a DIY opportunity!
Having some decor as take home items for the mama was also important to me. Lately, I have been really wanting the decor to be useful in multiple ways so that it doesn’t just get tossed away at the end of the party. So, I thought it could be interesting to display baby onesies on my wall all in the colors of fall or have phrases on them about fall and then give them to mama at the end of the party. Another way you can do this is just by putting them on a string and hanging the string somewhere around the party. A great way of putting money to good use. To be clear – this was how I could give mama her gift in a unique way.
Favors
I came across seed paper when I worked a wedding and loved the idea. After all, mama-to-be is growing a baby so, let’s grow some flowers too! Putting them on the table hopefully helped the guests to not forget about them as they are leaving the party!
Fake Baby Pumpkin
I found this fake baby pumpkin idea and had to do it! I had already gotten a newborn pumpkin hat from TJMaxx and then a really inexpensive pacifier set from Walmart. All I had to do was put some sleeping eyes on the pumpkin with a sharpie, put the hat on and pin the pacifier on and boom – a fake baby pumpkin!

Food & Beverage

Food and beverage is always an area of the event that I find very important because I never want a guest to feel hungry when they leave. I also feel the pressure of wanting to make sure everyone is comfortable with the choices. This could be because whenever I go to a party – I’m always hungry and I’m so picky. Hi, it’s me, I’m the problem – it’s me.
Anyway, a guest requested that the time be earlier because of her flight and I thought that was a fine idea. It would give me the opportunity to do a fall brunch menu! You can’t tell me you’d say no to that.
The food counter itself was a DIY project my husband and I did for my daughters party the day prior. Since there wasn’t a whole lot of time for tear down – I decided to keep this ‘counter’ up and use it to display the brunch food.
I got some of the fall decor from places like, the dollar store or marshals but I have found close Amazon dupes listed below.
The Menu
To be honest, I couldn’t decide what to do because everything sounded so delicious. So, I came up with (what I thought) could please a lot of people. You cannot go wrong with fruit so I paired waffles with fruit to give the breakfast vibe. Meat and cheese boards have been staple party options for a very long time and it tends to have the ability to fill guests up in just the right way so a charcuterie board was a must!
All the extra sweets were items that I just couldn’t do this party without. Donut holes that look like rattles? ok add it. Mini Pumpkin pies? ummm say no more and come on – who is going to say no to these cute clementines that look like mini pumpkins!! Lastly, the punch recipe I found was extremely good!!! I highly recommend (link below). We just didn’t end up putting in the maple syrup.
- Breakfast Board
- Belgium Waffles served with maple syrup
- Blueberry Jam & Butter

Games & Activities

I’m a huge believer of providing games at my parties. I even did a few games at my wedding. There’s something about entertaining guests with a little bit of competition and prizes. Are you Ready For It?
The Games & Activities:
- My Water Broke
- Pacifier Hunt
- Celebrity Baby Names
- Children’s Book Emoji Pictionary
- Advice For The Parents
- Coloring ABC Guestbook
My water broke
When I first came across this idea, I always wondered if it would be fun. I, personally, have never gotten the chance to play it at a baby shower so I wanted to see if it was fun. Turns out – it’s amazing! It’s an easy game that everyone can play and you are at fates mercy! The only part that was ‘hard’ was the logistics of keeping the ice frozen before everyone had a chance to get their baby in the cup. After your guests get their baby – let fate do her job!
How To Play:
- Step 1: Buy mini plastic babies for the amount of guests (and then some)
- Step 2: Prior to event – put babies in ice trays and fill with water
- Step 3: Put in freezer
- Step 4: On the day of event – pull out ice babies and put them into a penguin container for guests to grab for their cups
- Step 5: Tell guests about the game ASAP; this way the babies have the ability to melt in guests’ cups before the party is over
- Step 6: Wait until the ice baby melts in the guests’ cup
- Step 7: Guest yells MY WATER BROKE when ice baby has melted

Pacifier Hunt
Another classic option. I was a little worried about not being able to find enough spots to hide these or for it to mess up my visual of the party but luckily they enhanced it! Having this game allowed the party to feel more of a baby shower than just a chic fall party. 😉
I decided to add a spin off by hiding a unique real pacifier where whoever found it got an ‘extra’ prize.
How To Play:
- Step 1: Buy your color of choice plastic pacifiers; I chose blue because the mama-to-be is having a boy.
- Step 2: Hide pacifiers throughout the event. Hide in easy and hard places for a challenge.
- Step 3: At the start of the event, tell guests about the game and have them find the pacifiers as they choose. When you are ready or feel like guests are done searching…
- Step 4: Ask guests to count the amount of pacifiers they have collected. Whoever has the most; Wins!
- Step 5: Ask guests who found the special real pacifier and give them a prize

Celebrity Baby Names
Who doesn’t love a game about our beloved celebrities especially when it comes to their offspring! This game is really simple to set up. You don’t even need to use the celebrities I’ve listed. Perhaps they are all presidents and their babies or authors and their babies. It’s a cool way to find out who knows more about couples outside our inner circles.
Theres no need to shop for anything besides a gift if you want to provide one. For this game you just need to print off the list of names A-P and have guest fill in each letter with a pen or pencil!
Children’s Book Emoji Pictionary
Our guest of honor was a teacher and also invited several other teachers so I thought it would be pretty appropriate to have a book inspired game. Having had kids myself, this book inspired game was really exciting to me because I’ve read books to my son since he was born. It didn’t matter that he couldn’t understand fully but now he is obsessed with reading and books!
This is another one of those games that you do not need to use the exact ones that I used and you can make your own up. I found this one while searching for games and love them all and just created my own imagery around it to match my theme. Same with the last game – you just need to print these for each guest and provide pens/pencils and a gift (if you want).
Prizes
Prizes and gifts are never mandatory for the games but I’m a huge fan of bringing joy to peoples faces when they win a game and receive a gift. That being said, the prize/gift size is purely up to you. My choices always range from party to party. Here is a list of some of the items I had as gifts/prizes.
Shop ‘The Prizes’
- Pumpkin Spice Latte Tree Hut Scrub
- Plump-kin Eye Patches
- I’m Pumpkin Sheet Mask
- This is what I gifted however since it is hard to come by off season – here is an Amazon Pumpkin Mask option
- Pumpkin candle
- I got my pumpkin candle from Target for $5 (no longer available) but any pumpkin candle will do.
- Amazon dupe: Pumpkin Shaped Candle
- Homemade Pumpkin Seeds
- My mother-in-law was kind enough to make homemade pumpkin seeds from her sisters pumpkins. So a very local option here and a great way to be very inexpensive but still thoughtful!
- Fall Kitchen Scrubs
Activity Cart

The activity cart was just my way of organizing all the ‘extra’ stuff. It had: the advice cards, the guestbook (and supplies), some decorations, the prizes for the games and then the game cards. The actual cart is not necessary for these things. I got this cart a while back for a different event and love to use it as my ‘Welcome’ cart now. I got it on Amazon but it is no longer available so, I’ve listed something similar.
I’m obsessed with the guestbook for this party. I got it from Etsy. I highly recommend upgrading to the sellers printed option to put it into protective sleeves. It was worth it. Guestbooks (for me) are always hit or miss. I never know if it is truly something that the party NEEDS or if it’s just an unnecessary expense. Lots of times guestbooks are either never looked at after the party or they are cool in the moment and then become clutter afterwards. The other problem I find with guestbooks is it seems to be something you always have to remind your guests to do. So, you want to make sure you put it in a spot that is very noticeable.
This guestbook I love because it is something the parents & baby can actual use afterward the party! Just have all the guests color each of the pages and then, since it is a book – it can be a tool to teach baby the ABCs! Each guest writes their name on the page so the baby knows who attended their shower and who colored each page! It is also a great way for guests to be active during the party if nothing else is going on.
Tips: Tell the guests at the very beginning of the party so there is plenty of time for everyone to work on it without being rushed. Guests can do as many pages as they want and if there are leftovers then the parents can do them at home or kiddo can color it when they get older.

Inconclusion
Overall, I feel this party was a huge success! It seemed like the guests had a good time and mama-to-be left with a huge smile on her face.
Highlights
- I loved the long table/counter we had to display the food – it made it really easy for everyone to grab a bite to eat
- The arch was beautiful! I think it was worth the rental money
Improvements
- I didn’t leave near enough time to prepare the food. I completely forgot about how long it takes to wash that much fruit and pat it dry so guests are grabbing wet food.
- Allow for more time to take photos at the end!
Really appreciate you taking the time to read about this party. Please take one last moment to comment below any likes or dislikes. I can’t wait to hear what you think!
