Looking back, I think it is really weird how one of my ‘must haves’ was horseback riding on the beach in the Bahamas. Is that common? I have no idea but, I’m so grateful for such an experience. I am also thankful to have you here reading this because that means you’re like me in that you enjoy horses. If not, you will after you read this post!

A quick background… I’ve always been interested in horses and how beautiful they are. My sister was the one who introduced me to horseback riding competitions. We did them together when we were younger.. she always did much better than me but I still had a ton of fun. So, ever since then, I’ve always wanted to get back to the great feeling I had riding horses. They truly are amazing animals.

Back to the Bahamas. When I suggested to my parents and husband that we go horseback riding in the Bahamas… on the beach – No one objected. So, I put my efforts to research and came across this stable:

Happy Trails Stables

Location: Norman Rd, Coral Harbour, Nassau, Bahamas

Fun thing… it was raining when we were on our way to the stables and the first 15 minutes we were there. However, rain or shine we will ride!

Here are some amazing things about this stable:

  • You don’t have to know how to ride
  • The ranchers put you with a horse that accommodates your riding experience
    • What I mean by this – is if you have no experience with riding they put you with a gentle, easy horse. If you have ridden before or you are a really experienced rider there is also a horse for you!
  • Small groups
    • The stable only allows small groups of people at a time. It was only my family (my husband, mom, and dad) and one other family of 3. This makes it really easy to learn to ride from the trainers. You are also not having to wait for other people all the time. So it helps you enjoy the experience even more!

Somehow the owners of the ranch found out I competed in horse competitions. After that, one of the owners came over to me talkin all sorts of horse talk from what type of rider I am to where I competed and so on. I spoke above about how they give you a horse based on your experience. Well, I guess the owner felt that I was really experienced and gave me a more wild horse. One that loves to run and one that needed a little ‘love tap’ when they didn’t want to listen.  So, the owner proceeded to break off a branch and gave me a stick to ‘lightly tap’ the horse to listen when I needed it to.

My horses name was Cheyenne and Zach’s horses name was Skip. He got named Skip because the horse would purposely slow down so that he could trot to catch up. I was behind Skip the entire ride and it was hilarious watching Zach trot 50% of the time because the horse enjoyed trotting.

Horseback Riding Recap

  • I give this stable a 5 star rating for sure. They take extremely good care for their horses and respect the people riding them.
  • I would hands down do this again, over and over again.
  • Don’t do this adventure when you are mad sunburnt. It was definitely painful on my legs after getting burnt at Pearl Island
  • You will be in pain after riding four hours with no breaks. So, prepare your legs!! No pain, no gain am I right?
  • I personally, would say that one could wear pants for riding horses but —  kind of hard to do that when you are in the Bahamas.

Overall, Please put this on your agenda for your Bahamas trip because it is a blast and honestly was one of the best parts of my trip. This adventure is well worth the money if you go with this stable. The one thing I would make sure you do is: when you schedule this, book by calling the stable. My mom booked this online (on their website) and for some reason it ended up not completing.  When she called to switch days, the woman who she was talking with said ‘what reservation’. So, Please just make sure you book your excursion by calling the stable.

I hope you enjoyed this post! If you haven’t already, please take a moment to check out my other posts from my trip to the Bahamas: Our HotelPearl IslandFoodShopping

  1. If I am going somewhere to rest for a long enough time, I will not miss the opportunity to organize a ride for myself! My favorite is riding at sunset, unbelievable… I share your passion for horses. Thank you for sharing!
