Since finding out we were pregnant (the first time) I’ve been dreaming up of ways to tell our friends and family that we’re going to have a baby. This is part of the excitement of new journeys in life right? Our announcement story is a little patchy because of our miscarriage but I think its still exciting stories to share!
It takes me a long time to figure out what I want to do for things like this because I turn into a perfectionist. Luckily, I knew I wanted to do something to do with wine for my parents and something super playful for Zach’s parents.
Announcement To Zach’s Parents
We will be the first in his family to have a child so, whatever we do, it will be new! I mean, first grandchild must be such an amazing feeling! We decided to go and visit them at their house about 2 hours away to surprise them!
One of the cool things that Zach’s mom likes to do is give us kids lottery tickets. I can’t say that I’ve ever won anything more than $1 but I can say that it’s a joy to figure out I’m a loser. Haha. Just kidding. She always gets us different cards so it is challenging to figure out the rules.
I decided for this announcement to get the family a challenging lottery ticket! I got this 6 pack off off Amazon for only around $9! Let’s just say it went spectacular! Zach’s mom was the quickest to scratch it off and figure out the news. Then it slowly trickled down to his dad and eldest brother.

His other brother came in later and decided that he’d scratch his off but he apparently thought that, ‘he was having a baby’ and thought it was a hoax! We had to explain to him that it was real and that he was going to be a new uncle! It was an exceptional reaction and we will always remember this moment!!
Announcement To My Parents
Next up, my parents! So, just like Zachs parents – my mom n’ dad also live a bit away about 3 hours. Both my mom and I decided that we should probably get together sometime so, I planned her and dad to come up in mid February.
Tip: It is a little easier to plan a surprise when you’re in control of the situation.
This will be my parents’ second grandchild and look at their reaction below:
My parents are so funny. Their reaction was everything I was hoping for and MORE! The best part is that my mom kept trying to give it back to me!
I made this label on Canva; a free phone app. Basically, I took a template that I felt looked like a ‘wine’ label and edited it all to have some sort of ‘baby’ theme. I’m really into french things so my husband came up with the FABULOUS idea to have the wine be called ‘LE BÉBÉ’. I mean, it means baby in french but to my parents it will look like some fancy wine from France! Brilliant.
After I made the label, we printed it on really nice paper so that it wouldn’t be see-through. Last but not least, we just put double sided tape on the back of the label and covered up the original label. I suppose you could remove the original label but I wanted it for placement and in case it didn’t remove easily, I didn’t want to ruin it.
Our Social Media Announcement
We decided that our baby is going to be our cute little woodland baby because who can say no to bears and bunny rabbits? That being said, I wanted our photo op to be in a nearby woods and to have a very natural feel to them. We announced to the world about 1 week after we told close friends and family.
We got our shirts off of Etsy here. They shipped to me incredibly fast and are very good quality. The only thing that I was a little bit hesitant about were the colors. The images compared to real life is a little bit different so if you purchase these just be aware of that! We ordered, Small Wine Red for me, Large Heather Gray for Zach, and Newborn White for baby.
I got my letter board from Target here. However, there is also this really nice one that is on Amazon! And lastly, we purchased our adorable baby bear booties from Amazon.

I think that because we couldn’t do another grand reveal to our parents, its nice to be able to have these moments we had with our first pregnancy. Everyone’s journey is different and ours is no exception. I’m thrilled to be able to walk this path with my husband Zach and our family who I wouldn’t trade for the world!!
