Planning an event always needs a theme in my opinion. When you are building it out each any every element needs to connect to said theme. For our baby shower, I wanted the theme to be a classy, woodland theme. I didn’t want the party to scream blue just because we are having a boy. So, I chose to center the party around nature and woodland animals. I also wanted to bring in Winnie The Pooh because that was my favorite childhood character and he’s a bear ;).

Also – due to Covid 19, we decided to have a select amount of people attend physically (if they wanted) and then the option for those who could not attend watch LIVE on Facebook. We posted the games on a Facebook page for those to play along with us. It was very interactive!

When I found this set of creature art on Etsy – it wasn’t hard for me to seek out all the things this vendor makes. We were able to find various items on Amazon for a quicker delivery time. However, since some items needed to be edited with specific information we opted for the printable version on Etsy. Since the printable did not come with envelopes we needed to get these as well and I really wanted to showcase the beautiful green so we went with a green envelope!

Next up, the favors! When we came up with the idea to do honey jars for our favors there was no going back! The only struggle was whether or not we could find jars with honey already filled in them. Luckily, my mom is a wizard and she found a company that filled little hexagon jars with real honey, added a little bee charm (that we hot glued on top) and included a honey dipper! It was a no brainer to get these! Plus – They screamed our Winnie The Pooh piece of the party especially with the printable tags we added!

I, of course, can’t just do one favor so we came up with doing trail mix because – everyone needs a snack when you are walking the trails in a woodland forest! Then, we found the printable labels that we just taped onto the trail mix for a cute feature! I had a very specific request to have the trail mix have a clear, see-through bag and for it to be individually wrapped because #covid. Then, my mom managed to find ones with orange on it which matched our fox tremendously well!

Finally, for our second smaller party we decided to include a candle as part of the favors. They are a little bit on the pricey side so the first party we purchased a few for game prizes. We got the lavender one and the eucalyptus/mint ones. In my opinion, the lavender candle did not smell like lavender but the eucalyptus/mint smelled wonderful!

Decorations

We hosted our first party at a park with a gorgeous pavilion next to a pond and a lovely forest with several trails. The second party was hosted at my parents house in their garage because it was must smaller and we didn’t need a large space.

Due to Covid being a very big issue when it comes to gatherings we had space, food and sanitation top of mind. Each table was more than 6 feet apart and only immediate family members were to sit with each other so no one felt uncomfortable about eating next to someone they don’t normally see. As far as the food goes – everything was prepared with gloves and individual. This way no one was needing to touch stacks of plates or food. We also provided hand sanitizer at every table.

Food

The first party we decided to do individual sandwiches from jimmy johns and pre-bagged chips. We added carrots and broccoli to resemble ‘rabbits carrots’ and ‘tree broccoli’. My favorite was when we thought to do berries to resemble ‘wild berries’. Remember when I mentioned everything has to go back to the theme!? If you look closely, you will see the most creative woodland inspired napkins that I absolutely love! We got 3 colors: white, hunter green and pumpkin spice!

For dessert, my mom safely made chocolate cupcakes, mint leaves, twig inspired chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate kiss, nutter butter acorns! For the second party we decided to step it up a notch so my mom made a beautiful woodland cake! We got woodland animal toppers for all of the cupcakes (2 versions).

For the beverages, we decided to keep it simple and have individual soda bottles and water bottles. To keep the theme going, we found our themed woodland art as water bottle labels! It was a must!

Other Baby Shower Party Elements

Since I wanted to incorporate Winnie The Pooh at this party but still keep it classy we found these pooh bears with a yellow shirt instead of his traditional red shirt. I originally wanted to have him hanging from balloons but due to us having our party outside it wasn’t an option so we just placed the balloon clusters from Party City near 2 Pooh bear for our head table. We also incorporated a Winnie The Pooh Quote in a wood frame at each table. The quote reads: “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”

We used various signs throughout the party all of which featuring the same woodland animal art to stay consistent. The welcome sign we got from Etsy because we wanted the date on it but all the other signs with the wood frames and the It’s A Boy sign we got from Amazon.

I definitely wanted a guest book for baby boy to be able to look at when he grows up so we found a woodland themed one from, yup, you guessed it… Amazon 😉

The Woodland Centerpiece

The most difficult and most beautiful piece of the party would have to be the centerpieces. My parents worked tremendously hard on building each of them for every table and an additional one for the winner for one of the games. For this piece, you would need a really good hot glue gun! We wanted the piece to last forever which is why we wanted everything to be permanently secured.

The individual cutout woodland animals were a printout from Etsy that was hot glued to an approximate 1″x 3″ board that was then glued onto the circular wood stand. You can find the 8inch wood stands from Hobby Lobby or from Amazon! The mason jar was also glued down to the wood stand. Then, comes the moss – I would say put enough on there that it looks really full! The burlap ribbon and bow on the mason jar added a sweet touch and of course a pine cone from the yard. Lastly, the flowers – we decided to go with baby’s breath (get it?) and eucalyptus. If there is a nice deep green leaf option in your local floral shop than you can add that!

Games

So, besides planning the event and decorations the next best thing are the games! Now, games aren’t mandatory but they sure do make the event memorable! When I plan an event, no matter the number of people, I always have some sort of activity or game and of course they ALWAYS come with prizes ;).

The Games

**You can find the woodland pencils here –> Wood Pencils

  • Etsy Woodland Game Package
    • The Price Is Right
      • This is a game where the host buys the items on the list and whatever price they buy it at will be what the guests have to guess. Thus – If they get the closest total cost of all the items at the end of the list (without going over) They win! ie… our favorite was 1 reusable diaper was $22!!! Safe to say no one thought it was that expensive 😉
    • Who Knows Mommy Best
      • Just what it says… Questions about the mom-to-be like, favorite color or drink and so on. Whoever gets the most right wins!
    • Who Knows Daddy Best
      • ^– Same
    • Animal Gestation Game
      • This one was pretty difficult!
    • Who’s My Mama
      • But, this one was worse! There were so many I did not know!
    • Word Scramble
      • We didn’t do this game at both parties but this one was easy for some and hard for others! Are you good with words?
  • A Scratch Off Ticket
    • We found these super adorable woodland scratch off tickets that just say ‘winner’ or doesn’t and if yours had winner on it you got a price! Perfect game for everyone!
  • How many Gummy Bears In The Jar
    • This one was the same as the scratch off ticket; a perfect game for everyone. You just have to guess how many gummy bears were in the jar!
    • For this one, the winner received the entire jar with the gummy bars! Perfect prize in my opinion 😉

The Prizes

Whenever I come up with prizes for an event I always try to come up with something that the guest would be able to use. I’m not a huge fan of buying something that would just sit around and collect dust or worse… get thrown away. When it came to the prizes for this baby shower we thought it would be cool to incorporate a nice variety of items.

  • 3 different adult beverage sets; Our first party had several younger guests invited so I thought it would be fun to do:
    1. Set of 4 Sangrias with Rosé gummy bears
    2. Mini bottle of Rum paired with 2 Cokes
    3. Mini bottle of Tequila paired with 4 margarita mix cans
  • 3 Jars filled with Teddy Grams and a surprise Starbucks gift card
  • 1 winner of the Scratch Off Ticket received a centerpiece
    • My parents put so much hard work into handmaking the centerpieces so we thought it would be a great idea to give one away as a prize!
  • Personalized Woodland Candle
    • For the first party – we had lavender candles we gave away during the easier games and the second party we had eucalyptus & mint candles as favors
  • Beauty Bags
    • My mom works for Ulta Beauty so for the second party she put together two prizes: 1 women’s beauty bag and 1 men’s beauty bag. Anyone can do this with different types of products that you think your guests would like!

I am going to put together a post about our baby registry but we registered at Buy Buy Baby and Amazon.

In Conclusion

My husband and I had such a spectacular time at both parties! My parents put so much time, energy and funds into hosting and putting together two beautiful memorable parties. It was also a joy to have Zach’s parents come up for the weekend before the first party to put together various things! Really created such a great bonding time for our two families. We also want to thank my grandparents for helping for the second party! We truly have amazing people in our lives!

If I would change anything with these baby shower parties, I would say it would’ve been wonderful to not have Covid 19 but I’m sure a lot of mom-to-bes have been dealing with this in 2020.

I really hope you enjoyed reading about how we planned our baby’s baby shower. It truly was a memorable and fun time! We were so thankful to those who were able to attend and shower our baby boy with love. If there is something you like from this post please reach out or comment below! I would love to hear what you think!
