Come inside it’s fun inside!

Two Year Olds will not remember their birthday; I’m just being honest. This doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t get the most fabulous 2 year old birthday party ever thrown for them. 😉 In my opinion, everyone gets celebrated, every occasion gets a celebration and every milestone gets thrown a party!

For Christmas my parents gifted me a Cricut. I’ve only ever heard of it from a close friend of mine but I had never seen it or used it. A cousin in law of mine told me all the amazing things you can do with one and how you can DIY a ton of decorations you normally buy online somewhere (which is usually overpriced) That being said – when you are just starting out there is the learning curve and the upfront cost of materials but after that… lol

After I told her my theme idea for Gus’ birthday she couldn’t help but want to be involved so we teamed up to create the coolest Black and White Mickey Mouse Birthday Party! Gus has been completely obsessed with Mickey over the past few months so it was an obvious choice for the theme. That being said, I wanted to do something a little different and take out all the color. Seems a little backwards for a kiddo but I knew he wouldn’t mind ;). The other cool thing about doing a B&W theme is it felt like a very vintage, steamboat Mickey. In fact, you’ll see the steamboat Mickey we ordered for him below!

The great idea about having a simple theme like B&W is that you can find B&W things everywhere and make anything you set your mind to with the Cricut! Due to the fact that I was just learning about how to use my machine my cousin in law was so kind to help out with all the heavy crafting! <3 Forever thankful.

Lets get down to it

Invite & Welcome Door Sign

Instead of a formal invite because our guest list was so small – I decided to do an evite that I made on Canva and sent via text to all guests. My cousin-in-law made me my sign for the door on her Cricut. Then we just attached them together with string and hung on the door!

Milestone Sign

I got this idea from my cousin-in-law when I saw it at her daughters party. She does it every birthday and I thought that was just amazing. Then I realized this was actually a thing parents did! You can buy these on Etsy in many different versions. Since I wanted mine to be very specific I decided to make it myself on Photoshop. I got inspired by others online and on Pinterest then I added some things that I wanted to remember about Gus at age 2.

Food

Guest count: 20
  • Mousekatools
  • Mickey’s Clubhouse Sandwiches
    • I used a Mickey Mouse Cookie Cutter to cut out the bread, cheese, meat and lettuce
      • The bread was a tad larger than the rest of the parts of the sandwich
    • We had mustard, mayo, cucumber and tomato on the side
  • Daisy’s Garden Salad – Poppyseed Apple Salad
  • Pluto’s Pickin’s
    • I got these cups from Hobby Lobby but you can also get them on Amazon here.
    • Strawberries, Blueberries and Raspberries are my son’s favorite so thats what we did.
    • We added the Mickey Mouse head by using the Cricut but I found these stickers on Amazon that would be another option.
  • Goofy’s Hot Diggity Dogs
    • Mini hotdogs or smokies stuffed inside crescent pastry dough. The were the hit of the party!
  • Donald’s Cheese & Quackers
  • Minnie’s Bow Tie Pasta
    • We made some crock pot bow tie mac n cheese
  • Various chips
    • I really wanted to make a mickey shape out of bowls so I got 2 medium size bowls and 1 large bowl that I used to put pretzels and chips into. I got them at Party City medium bowl here and large bowl here.
  • Mickey Cake
    • This was my first time making anything bigger than a sheet cake. I wanted a very specific look so I thought I’d try it with my mom’s help as she has done tiered cakes before. It’s definitely not as easy as it looks.
    • My mistake was that I should have frosted the cake the night before with white and then add black stripes after the white sat and hardened. But I did like the fondant that I used for the Mickey heads.
    • Black Mickey Mouse Candle
    • Gus’s Mickey Mouse Plate
  • Pete’s Punch – Sherbet Style
    • Personalized cups with a Mickey head using the Cricut

Decorations

  • Balloons
    • Mickey Head, Black # 2, and Clear Mickey Balloons are from Party City
      • It was very important to me to have no color so I removed the confetti out of the balloons before I gave them to the clerk to blow up
    • Black Mickey Mylar Balloons are from Amazon that I just randomly placed around the space. These are great because you can deflate them and use them at another time!
  • “August Is Two” Sign
    • This was made using the Cricut because I wanted it to have his name on it and wanted it in Black & White. However, if you don’t want it that specific I did find this ‘Happy Birthday’ Mickey Sign on Amazon that has just a touch of color on it.
  • Black and White Striped Banner
    • You can find this on Amazon here.
    • At first, I thought it was too small but – it actually turned out great for our wall and the cake still stood out!
  • Black and White Striped Table Runner/Tablecloth
    • I used two tablecloths folded in half. One for the food table and one for the welcome table. You can find that on Amazon here. However, If you want actual runners here is a great option.
  • Black and White Mickey Mouse
  • Mickey Mouse Confetti & August Circle Sign
    • We made the ours with the Cricut and put them throughout the house to really spice up the place. You can find some one size confetti on Amazon here
  • Picture Slideshow
    • I decided to put a slideshow together of pictures of him throughout that year and displayed it on our living room TV!

Games

It is hard for me not to do a game with prizes at a party I host. I wanted to keep it simple but have a fun activity for my guests who were traveling so far. I decided to do two games since my son was turning TWO; figured that was appropriate!

Bingo

My friends know I am a HUGE bingo fan. I did even had a bingo gender reveal game that you can check out here. We also do a bingo game for our Christmas Party every year! So, I thought how fun would it be to create a black and white Mickey Mouse character Bingo game. I used the Bingo Baker to put the images I wanted to put into my bingo game and BOOM! the perfect game. Without subscribing you get limited options but we just used a second computer to make more cards. If you have any questions just comment or message me!

Birthday Boy Trivia

For this one I wanted to do a game all about the birthday boy since it was his day after all! So we did 12 questions to see who knew the two year old best! You can just make up questions to make sure that some are tricky and some are really easy so that people who don’t know him as well have a chance to win and it won’t just be the grandparents winning haha! Also – if they are paying attention some of the answers to this game could be on the Milestone Poster 😉

Prizes

For the prizes I chose to do two baskets (which I got from walmart). The first basket was a movie night basket so it had a bunch of candy and popcorn in it. The second basket had a bunch of things that my son enjoys at this time so that was: spaghetti noodles, fig bars, a spoon, a Smart water, and a plant. Then we used clear basket wrap to bring it all together with a bow. I apologize as I do not have a picture of it but they looked fantastic!

Favors

  • You can’t have a Mickey Mouse party without Mickey or Minnie ears. So, naturally I bought a set of Mickey & Minnie Ears for everyone to wear when they arrived. They are not the fanciest or most durable but they do the job and were really cute. I got them on Amazon here.
    • Bella got a special headband since she is still so small <3 You can find hers here
  • Mickey Mouse Cookies!
    • This is the third time making cookies for an event like this and I have always used the same recipe from here –> Sally’s Baking Addiction
    • Unfortunately, we had a run in with an ingredient we were missing so we ran out of time to be ‘pretty’ about it. So, they turned out less than perfect but they still tasted delicious!
    • We used the same Mickey Mouse cookie cutters that we used for the sandwiches Mickey Mouse Cookie Cutter
    • I put the cookies into cute black and white bags for everyone to take home with them after the party! You can find those on Amazon here

I put some of the confetti on white paper to have fun wrapping! All Mickey Mouse wrapping paper is SO EXPENSIVE so I thought this was a way to go along with the theme in a cheaper way.

Our Outfits

It’s amazing how useful the Cricut was for this party. We used it to make our special shirts for the party. This (and the ears) were the only spots I decided to add color to. So all our names got put in red for the shirts. Gus also got special sketchbook style Mickey Sweats to wear.

Overall, we had a really great time and it seemed like all our guests did too! As always, if you ever have any questions or need further details about something please shoot me an email or comment below!
