Howdy Y’all! If you can’t tell by the post title, ‘Pregnancy 1st Trimester Recap’, my husband and I are with child or as normal people like to say, PREGNANT! As our first trimester comes to an end July 14th – I thought it would be a fun celebration to do a recap so sit back, put your seatbelt on and don’t forget your mask because well… #covid19
I’m going to put a little plug for another little post I did talking about our experience with miscarriage. You can find that post here –> Our First Pregnancy. After you read my MC post you’ll start to understand some fear and where my nervousness came from that I talk about below.
We found out about our hopeful Rainbow Baby on May 9th, 2020. A rainbow baby is known as a baby born after a loss. We were stoked of course but we also had a lot of nervousness and fear holding us back from being truly excited.
Our First Pre-Natal Appointment
I found out during the first pregnancy that I have RH- blood which can cause some complications if not treated or talked about with the doctor soon enough. So – I scheduled our appointment at 7 weeks (May 26th) which was the earliest our new clinic could get me in.
Due to Covid 19 Zach could not come to the appointment with me which was a huge bummer and masks are required. Let me tell you, I found out I was out of shape when the elevator wasn’t working and I had to walk up 4 flights of stairs whilst wearing a mask.
How did the first appointment go?
- Baby is healthy and growing right on track!
- We went through all the fun medical history, various information for genetic testing, and symptom preventions
- I got a really cute handmade bag with info and a huge book for reading up on pregnancy 1st trimester!
I have to be honest, although our appointment gave us a TON of relief, I wasn’t completely satisfied. I’ve noticed with this journey I’ve gone through that I have a hard time trusting and having a positive attitude. That being said, I knew that the next 5 weeks (until the next appointment) was going to be a terribly long, agonizing wait.
The Next 5 Weeks…
After our anniversary trip around May 30th – we came back and I felt like I was on bed rest for a week and half. Nausea hit me like a box of rocks. Three things I had going for me though: 1. Work From Home has been a dream. 2. No vomiting. 3. I have thee best husband in the entire world (sorry everyone.)
Pregnancy 1st Trimester Fun Nausea Tricks I Tried
- Ginger Tea – Worked like a dream
- B6 – Didn’t work at all for me
- Sleep – because I’m growing a baby and I’m soooo tired!!
- Bought ginger gum but by the time I bought it I didn’t need to use anymore
At about the time that I realized I could switch my prenatal vitamin to night time my nausea went away immediately. All of a sudden, I felt like I had no symptoms or signs of being pregnant at all. At this point I start panicking that it is happening again.
So – I decided to go in for a quick sneak peak of baby (9 weeks) to make sure everything was fine. The appointment lasted 2 minutes and it was on a mini doppler ultrasound that didn’t have sound (which means no heartbeat sounds). Because the appointment was so quick and strange to me I was still skeptical that the information being given to me was accurate but – I had to believe at some point that everything was fine.
As time went on I still felt uneasy and didn’t even feel comfortable talking about anything baby related or discussing how we were going to announce to friends and family. I didn’t want to get my hopes up because at this point I had very little to no symptoms and feeling quite normal (aka not feeling pregnant at all. I thought about going to get another sneak peak at 11 weeks but decided – I mise well wait one more week.
The 12 Week Appointment
Ahhh finally we are here. June 30th our 12 week appointment. Up until this point there should be no reason of bad thinking but hey – no one is perfect! This appointment was no different than our 7 week appointment in that I was still extremely nervous.
The thing that made it more of a relief was that when they called to confirm the appointment they told me Zach could attend the 12 week apt but no future appointments. I was absolutely thrilled and jumping up and down! He, too, was really happy because he’d get to see what we hope would be a growing little bean!
How did the appointment go?
- Another round of baby doing healthy, passed all tests & growing right on track!!!
- Lots of times this appointment is an hour because of chances baby is not in the correct position for images but our baby was in perfect position so it was quite quick!! <3
- We got to hear the heart beat which was 167! I may have shed a couple tears of happiness and relief.
- Baby started doing leg crunches (this must be a feature from daddy ;)) which was thee cutest thing that I wish we could’ve recorded
- Met with Doctor to discuss any questions we had
Our appointment when spectacular and I was unbelievably excited, happy, and full of joy. Finally, I could relax and actually start to enjoy the pregnancy.
Wrapping Up Pregnancy 1st Trimester
Overall, the pregnancy 1st trimester was pretty painless. With the exception of all the worry and anxiety I had, it has been quite pleasant. Zach has been the most amazing husband a pregnant wife could have ever asked for. He has made me feel comfortable and has tried to ease my anxiety in the best way he can and that is just being here for me. I honestly cannot thank him enough for all his hard work and for all that I put him through. Note to self: I’m a pretty lazy pregnant lady. :/
11 Cool Pregnancy Facts When Taking A Look Back
- Pregnancy headaches are a thing and I’m not a fan – Tylenol and sleeping/resting helps
- Bye bras, skinny jeans and high heels it was nice knowing you!
- I question a lot of the time… Am I getting Quarantine fat or is this a baby bump 😉
- Sleeping and being pregnant in the summer is the absolute worst!! I honestly don’t remember the last time I slept a full night.
- One second… I gotta go to the restroom.
- Trix is EVERYTHING, apparently I’m into kale salad, for once I didn’t eat my dads chicken alfredo recipe or the mac n’ cheese I made which if you know me your jaw is probably on the ground…
- My nose is getting stronger. Sorry Zach but no more hot sauce, fresh parsley, or fresh cilantro around me!
- I hate the sun and walking far places – let’s be real, this is probably covids fault.
- My nails are in excellent shape for once!! Thank you, Baby O
- When I do get tired it is like a bulldozer hit me. I cannot snap out of it so – you’ve most likely lost me for the rest of the day. The cool thing about this, since working from home my activity level dramatically dropped so I’m not sure why.im.so.tired. oh yea… I’m growing a baby!
- Did I mention I have the BEST HUSBAND IN THE WORLD? He takes care of me so well that most of the time I don’t deserve such an amazing person. There is no doubt in my mind that he is going to be the most perfect dad <3
They say the 2nd trimester is better because there aren’t symptoms and you can function as a normal human being again! I’m excited for the next 3 months but I’ll likely continue to be anxious until I see our baby arrive. Thanks so much for reading!
